Biography

PhanCa (Duong Nguyen) is an artist based in Hanoi, working across a wide range of mediums – from animation, comics, and documentary film to communication design, ceramics, and visual art. While constantly experimenting with form, the core of PhanCa’s artistic practice remains her passion for storytelling and her desire to understand the communities her stories seek to reach.

Graduating in journalism in 2010 and animation in 2015, PhanCa brings both critical thinking and visual imagination into her creative journey. Her works often open up dialogues about community, and about the layered relationships between memory, locality, and social transformation. PhanCa hopes her stories can contribute to improving the lives of local people, or those who are often forgotten in dominant narratives.

Animation is the central medium in PhanCa’s artistic path, not only for its craftsmanship but also for its unique charm in storytelling – offering subtlety, diversity, and a modern sensibility in both expression and dialogue.

Having moved beyond the early years of experimentation and uncertainty, PhanCa is now entering a new phase of artistic work, starting to deeply invested in both production and thought. Alongside her formal academic training, PhanCa sees self-directed learning and real-world observation as essential parts of her creative process. She currently lives and works in Hanoi.
